A practical map of where specific SAP skill pools concentrate across India — and what that means for your sourcing strategy.
India's SAP ecosystem is not monolithic. Each of the four major hubs has a distinct talent personality shaped by the captives, GCCs and SIs that built it.
Bengaluru remains the deepest pool for BTP, Fiori/UI5 and cloud-native SAP engineering — a direct legacy of SAP Labs and the city's broader product engineering DNA. Hyderabad punches above its weight in Basis, HANA and security, with strong analytics and SuccessFactors benches. Pune is the manufacturing capital: PP, QM, EWM and automotive-flavoured FI/CO. NCR (Gurugram/Noida) is the consulting capital — programme managers, global rollout leads, and the largest concentration of S/4 functional consultants moving between Big 4 and tier-one SIs.
Sourcing implication: a 'pan-India' search rarely beats a hub-targeted one. For a BTP extension programme, lead with Bengaluru. For a brownfield S/4 conversion in process manufacturing, Pune and Hyderabad will out-deliver Bengaluru on time-to-shortlist by two to three weeks.
Tier-two cities — Chennai, Coimbatore, Ahmedabad, Kochi — are no longer afterthoughts. Post-pandemic hybrid norms have unlocked meaningful senior talent that simply won't relocate. Build them into your search from day one.
